Athletes: Don’t get so caught up and bent out of shape about things you can’t control. They are out of our control for a reason. One thing that will set you apart and that is a mainstay is how hard you work. If I played a game and it went down to the wire you could rest assured the man across from me wasn’t going to make me quit period. Do your job and that’s all you can do.
Athletes: The Real Numbers Game!
What percentage of college football players play in the NFL?
About 2.4%. 9000 become college players, and 215 become NFL players. “While many young people every year set their goals on becoming NFL players, it is extremely difficult to reach that level. Statistically of the 100,000 high school seniors who play football every year, only 215 will ever make an NFL roster. That is 0.2%!
Even of the 9,000 players that make it to the college level only 310 are invited to the NFL scouting combine, the pool from which teams make their draft picks.”
Just an FYI: I had a ball player that I think has a legit shot to defy the odds ask me. What made teams and personnel people respect me? I told him no matter how many times they told me to my face I couldn’t do it I did it in spite of constant hate and ridicule for my path to the pros. Moral if you don’t believe in you, then how can you expect the next person to. Oh and almost every scout I came across or ran into was blunt and said they didn’t see me making it! Athletes: There is a fine line between being motivated and ignorant. You have to fined the balance of knowing your worth and learning the language of the land you are trying to make it to ” NFL ” . Once you realize that it is all about timing, your worth more then doubles in your journey toward your goal. Watch for trends with these teams and not be so stubborn in your thinking that your the next best thing to come along. You know it, I know it, but they will never know it if you do not learn what language the professionals are speaking!
Athletes: A word of advice…. If you are not in the NFL or have been drafted to play in the NFL. Have a work related resume ready to start finding a job in whatever city you plan on moving to, to play while you pursue your dream of the NFL. If your teams season starts on a specific date you need to already be job hunting in that area! Do not rely on the team or organization or your agent to grind for you. Once you do that you become lazy. It’s your career… DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT mistake chasing a check for chasing your dream. I have seen it so many times before. Remember if it’s not the NFL it’s all developmental! Good luck to you on your journey. Success leaves clues, please follow the trail before your window closes.
